With my nice leather jacket fresh of the closet for the season, as well as more beanies than I can unapologetically admit to owning and wearing, it’s official: it’s getting cold. Now, don’t get me wrong, I’m a huge fan of fall & the things that come with it: rosy cheeks, cozy fireplaces, pumpkin or apple EVERYTHING, and so on, but there’s something I’ll always miss about the kiss of summer that kind of comes with being a california girl (damn you, Katy Perry..)
As the winter chill nips at our heels, it’s nice to reminisce about the warm days of summer, where being out in the sun inevitably leads to a happier disposition, more dance parties, and from a chemical perspective, an increase in your body’s production of eumelanin. Pretty much the stuff that your skin creates to protect your cells from getting their DNA damaged by the sunlight, since it’s pigmented a higher level of melanin would mean a darkened skin color. Viola, a tan!
Below are what I can laughably call my very own musical tanning-bed, your own little reminder of summer. Put on your favorite pool party ensemble, bust out the Jimmy Buffet Margaritaville Margarita Maker, and shake your booty to these sun-lovin, summer-drippin tunes.

I really love Maribou State a whole lot, and their new EP that’s coming out on Southern Fried on Tuesday is absolute fucking GOLD and Summerfolds is, in my opinion, the true gem of the EP. OUT 11/12/12

I mean, it’s not really an automatic assumption in my head that “acid line” and “summer jam” would necessarily go together, but somehow TWR72 pulls it off. The bold female vocals & catchy house beat are great, and when the funky acid synth comes in… oh wow.

What better refreshment to bring you right back to the summer heat than iced tea? Huge, bangin track from my favorite (questionably biased on this) Montreallers. PURCHASE
Friendly Fires – Paris (Aeroplane Remix)
Oh my god, I feel like this is the ultimate warm summer tune. I just hear this and want to frolic in the grass by the Eiffel Tower or ride bikes with baguettes in the basket & a big sun hat on. Sue me. PURCHASE
Funkstar De Luxe – Do You Feel (Edwin Van Cleef Remix)
Edwin Van Cleef is generally often someone I associate with warm, sexy, “pool haus” & it is definitely for good reason. Extra sunny vibes on this one and I’ll be damned if I didn’t play this every freakin day of the summer last year. PURCHASE

My adoration for Penny is indescribable, she’s a talented & artful little creature that brings a ton of light into the lives of people she touches. This song is catchy and meaningful… enjoy the day light

Well isn’t it a great thing I didn’t post this earlier? Shlohmo just threw this up on his Soundcloud and I’m so glad he did. Yukimi’s voice lends perfectly to the stylings Schlomo puts on his remixes. Good stuff.
